Daily Responsibilities

  • Install, relocate, configure, modify, and test network devices, including routers, switches, wireless access points, access controllers, and terminal servers. 
  • Manage, patch, and upgrade firmware and software on site-specific network devices IAW enterprise standards. 
  • Create, maintain, and manage Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs). 
  • Assist with the establishment and implementation of network policies, procedures, and standards to include network security following ITSM CM best practices. 
  • Support Enterprise teams for management of site-specific security firewalls and virtual private network devices. 
  • Assist with DHA Infrastructure deployments and technical hardware refresh initiatives.  
  • Participate in MHS infrastructure planning and technical architecture. 
  • Support the development, planning, and maintaining of documentation necessary for operations. 
  • Support the integration of network hardware and software platforms for WAN/LAN/WLAN connected systems and medical information systems and devices. 
  • Coordinate telecommunications actions for provisioning and changes in networks. 
  • Provide Site support to assist with the Management of LAN and WAN connectivity or assistance with Quality of Service (QoS) for applications such as streaming media, Video over Internet Protocol (VoIP), and other Government prioritized traffic as required. 
  • Provide support to all Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) implementation activities as directed by the Government Task Manager. 
  • Deploy and sustain new or existing information networks, such as local area networks (LAN), Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), intranets, extranets, and other communications networks.  
  • Administers day-to-day sustainment, integrity, security and availability of the network.  
  • Perform daily performance monitoring, capacity analysis, and maintain security posture of the network.  
  • May assist architecture and engineering with evaluation, making recommendations and testing of network hardware and software products.  
  • Creates standard operating procedures, maintenance guides, and knowledge base articles to ensure proper documentation is established for the operational upkeep of the network.  
  • Performs network infrastructure maintenance upgrades to ensure a proper security and operational posture is maintained. 
  • Document all aspects of the engineering process as it relates to build and configuration, testing, and deployment of networks  
  • Coordinate changes such as implementation of new networks, upgrades or version increments to existing networks with network administrators and stakeholders  
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard new and existing networks.  
  • Perform network modeling, analysis, and planning  
  • Assist network administrators with complex troubleshooting issues and if needed coordinates vendor engagements to assist in troubleshooting efforts  
  • Provide day-to-day operational or administrative duties, as required, for deployed networks in lab or production environments  
  • Tune switch configurations for multicast routing, load balancing and high availability 
  • Perform more independent thinking and complete difficult tasks  
  • Provide Senior level independent thinking to resolve difficult local site IT tasks 
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • 6 years of progressive experience demonstrating the required proficiency.
