Daily Responsibilities

  • Focus on Enterprise Operations / ETS – Virtual Systems projects. 
  • Update Windows Templates with security updates and bug fixes.  
  • Monitor Remedy ticket queue and process needed server builds, virtual hardware resource changes, and system decommissions.  
  • Configure virtual server replication and support RecoverPoint for VM consistency groups and snapshot retention policies.  
  • Participate in Virtual Servers’ failover/failback activities. Perform virtual server troubleshooting and end-user support.  
  • Deploy/administer on-prem Kubernetes Clusters. Develop/support/ manage Kubernetes and server workload in a hybrid cloud/on-premises environment. 
  • Support Microsoft and RedHat Linux Server Operating Systems.  
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot hypervisors within the virtual infrastructure. Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot virtual Infrastructure. 
  • Implement & maintain security hardening CIS guidance for virtual Infrastructure. 
  • Plan, design, and implement hosting strategies using best practices while maintaining uptime and availability of all systems.  
  • Plan, design, and implement hardware firmware upgrade strategies using best practices while maintaining uptime and availability of all systems.  
  • Participate in upgrading Firmware on hardware supporting Virtual infrastructure.  
  • Analyze system logs and security events during troubleshooting scenarios and compile usage data, using the centralized Syslog repository.  
  • Build queries and script reports that will facilitate the analysis of log data across multiple platforms. Develop scripts to automate general operations tasks.  
  • Participate in On-Call rotation. 
  • Interact with other stakeholders in the Agency community for troubleshooting/solution development/etc. This interaction could include other members of other members of Enterprise Operations, Cybersecurity, the networking team, cloud team, technology support partners, etc.  
  • Identify and report on the current vulnerability/risk state of the Agency Virtual Server and Container hosting architecture. 
  • Assist in the development and performance of quality control checks and operational metrics for service uptime and operations. 

Required: Degree

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology or similar relevant degree. 

Required: Experience

  • Minimum of five years of related experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) 
  • Ability to work independently and in a group. 
  • Creative Self-starter attitude with initiative. 
  • Excel, Spreadsheet Software Experience 
  • PowerShell or general scripting experience 
  • In-depth knowledge of network switching and firewall management  
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and when necessary, coordinate working sessions with technical staff and supportive vendors/resellers.  
  • Review existing operational events and propose refinements, automation, and/or broaden handling capabilities as appropriate with focus on service uptime and performance.  
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) on two or more of the following: Kubernetes, Server Hosting, Virtual Networking, Network and Application Security, Scripting/Programming. 
  • Demonstrate experience working with at least 3 of the following technologies: 
    • VMWare (by Broadcom) Products (examples: vCenter, vSphere, Other) 
    • Omnissa (formerly VMware) Products (examples: Workspace One, Horizon VDI 
    • Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems and/or Linux Based Server Operating Systems 
    • Dell and/or HPE Blade/Rack Server Hardware 
    • Kubernetes Container Infrastructure (examples: Tanzu, Docker, others) 
    • Preferred, but not required – Dell and/or Cisco Chassis Network and Storage Switch configuration
